More on Maria F. Spaulding

Maria F. Spaulding, Maria F. Spauldinga consultant, community volunteer and former Executive Director of Human Services for Wake County will serve as the moderator for the Running & Winning workshop.

From December 1996 to December 2006 she headed Wake County Human Services, the largest agency in the county with an annual budget of approximately $250 million dollars, second only to Wake County Public Schools. During her term she combined the services of 1,800 employees to provide collaborative and/or integrated services through a consolidated office concept. Prior to her Wake County tenure, she was employed with North Carolina State Government for 13 years where she served in numerous capacities.

Maria presently serves on the Board of Directors of the following organizations: Triangle United Way and Governance Committee, Shaw University, The A. J. Fletcher Foundation, Triangle Learning Consortium, Wake County United Arts, The Greater Triangle YWCA, and The Triangle Lost Generation. She was one of three founders of The Wake County Healing Place for Men and Women and also serves on its Board.

Maria has received numerous honors and awards including:

  • 2003 Triangle United Way Women’s Leadership Award
  • 1997--“Distinguished Alumni” from Shaw University
  • 1997--“Woman of the Year” by Omicron Zeta Chapter, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
  • 1995--Inducted into the YWCA Academy of Women and honored with the Human Services Award

She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Shaw University and completed the Executive Management Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is truly dedicated to her community and we welcome her participation in this workshop.
